A little boy was watching the strong wind blowing the waters on a lake near his village. Some of his friends wanted to cross the lake, but they were having trouble because of the strong wind and high water. The little boy (named U'stapu) noticed that on the other side of the lake there was a young man fanning over the waters with his turkey feather fan. U'stapu knew that the fanning was causing the heavy winds, so he picked up a seashell and threw it. The shell hit and broke the young man's arm. The Chititmacha people used to say that when the wind is soft, the young man is using his broken arm and when the wind is strong he is using his good arm.
