This painting does not illustrate a "story", it illustrates my grandmother's method of quieting my sister and me before she would begin telling her story. My grandmother would give us an astronomy lesson by having us lie down and look up at the night sky full of stars. She challenged us to find shapes in the stars. Of course, she had her own shapes in mind, so she would make us find goats. She said there were seven little goats hiding in the stars and if we wanted her to tell us the story we had to find them. I always found the goats, but I was only able to see their heads.
