"Mother Corn"

In Mexico and Mesoamerica there are many stories of how the first humans were created from corn. The corn, or maize, was honored as the mother of the first people. Among the North America Native Americans, there are also stories about how during a famine on the earth the oldest and wisest woman in the tribe turned herself into corn so that the people could eat.
