A young girl's mother, who is very sick, can only be cured by the Golden Apple, so the girl goes on a quest to get the Golden Apple bring it back to her mother. The apple only grows in one place: at the heart of a Magic Mountain. As she is climbing the mountain, the girl keeps hearing voices coming from the rocks. The voices all tell her to turn back, to leave the mountain. She knows the only way to save her mother is to get the Golden Apple, so she stuffs her ears with grass to block the voices and keeps going. She gets the Golden Apple and starts back down the mountain. On the way down she meets many people. They all tell her they had been the rocks that were telling her to turn back. They had all tried to get the Golden Apple too, but, because they had turned back, they were turned into rocks. By not turning back the girl had broken the spell. She brought the apple to her mother and her mother was cured.
